Great Events Helping the Hungry This Weekend

There’s finally a bit of a chill in the air, and the holiday season is in full swing here with many great events benefiting the Capital Area Food Bank this weekend.

Doc Avery’s Haunted House
October 26 – 31

Doc Avery’s Haunted House, a production of Doc Avery Charities (DAC), is an Austin neighborhood charity event located in the Avery Ranch Subdivision that benefits the Capital Area Food Bank and other local charities. Children ages 6-14 are welcome to the kid-friendly Haunted House, along with family members. Admission is $5 per person, or $4 with a canned food donation. Mac & Cheese Cook-Off Contest
Saturday, October 27

Ruth Chris Steak House invites you to the Mac & Cheese Cook-Off. Come sample some of the best mac & cheese from a few of your favorite local Austin restaurants including Sullivan’s Steak House, Moonshine Grill, Bess Bistro, and Jaspers to name a few! Celebrity judges include Fozzy Whittaker (former Longhorn running back), Mike Barnes (KVUE sports), Donna Johnson (fashion and lifestyle blogger), Mark Henry (World’s Strongest Man/WWE Superstar), & Beverly Kerney (UT women’s track coach/humanitarian). There will be a silent auction with memorabilia from the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and many more! Show your support to help feed the hungry, and register to win fabulous prizes. Thrill the World Austin
Saturday, October 27

Zombie philanthropists unite at 12:30 pm on City Terrace at the Long Center for the annual zombie takeover of Austin!  Dress in your un-dead best and participate in Thrill the World, the annual worldwide dance event set to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

The dance begins at exactly 2:00 p.m. local time. Every dancer must register AND check-in on-site to be counted in our dancer total. Pre-registering here allows you to quickly check-in electronically day-of.

Participation is free and open to the public, but a minimum $5 donation is suggested with each registration. All proceeds will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.

Austin Yoga Festival
October 27 and 28

The Austin Yoga Festival was formed to celebrate the traditions of yoga, by bringing together Austin’s finest yoga studios, teachers, ayurvedic practitioners, and holistic wellness providers. Their mission is to raise awareness of the benefits of yoga, to provide a family friendly space to learn about and practice yoga, support ayurvedic, alternative medicine and wellness providers, assemble an eclectic mix of erotic exhibitors, live music, healthy food and beverages, and of course have fun. There will be a silent auction to help raise funds for the Food Bank and Community Yoga. For more information, visit their website.

Halloween Biker Bash & Bike Show
Sunday, October 28

Kandy Shop Kuztoms is proud to be hosting the hottest Halloween party in Austin There will be live performances by Austin’s very own “Dirty Wormz” & special guest appearance by “DJ Redd” of Swisha House, Fresh & Kleen, and more to be announced. The featured event will be the Bike Show. Contestants will enter their 2-wheel rides in an attempt win trophies in various categories. Judging will be in the Sport Bikes, Cruisers, and Bobbers categories. Get your ride entered now! Earlier in the day, there will be activities for the kids, including balloon walks, face-painting, trick or treating, storytelling, games, and contests. Together, with the many activities & festivities, a good time is assured to be had by all. They’ll be accepting non-perishable food items to be donated to the Food Bank. Halloween Fiesta and Food Drive
Monday, October 29

Join Beat on the Floor Fitness Studio as they celebrate Halloween and also give back to the Capital Area Food Bank. There will be Zumba dancing, a costume contest, and candy will be given out. Bring the children and get dressed up and come spend the evening with Beat on the Floor Fitness Studio. Admission is $10 and 2 cans of non-perishable food to be donated to the Food Bank.
