Last week, we had to say good-bye to our Summer Communications Intern, Sarah. In her time here, Sarah helped created graphics and gave our Hunger is Unacceptable campaign a new facelift. Read about her experience at the Capital Area Food Bank:

Working at the CAFB has been a lot of fun. Designing for a non-profit feels natural, partially because my mom has been working in the non-profit field for as long as I can remember. Being here these past couple of months have been influential for me in developing my sense of design style, gaining real world experience, and learning more about non-profit agencies and their causes.

The hardest part of this internship was bringing the tasks home. I think I spent nearly all my time thinking about how I can relate this or that design back to the CAFB brand. It was sort of a revamp, I think, of giving the CAFB a modern and fresh look that can really relate to their warehouse and future building site. My redesign of the Hunger is Unacceptable campaign brings it back home and allows for endless possibilities on how it can be used. Developing Hunger is Unacceptable graphics also brought me home, in a sense, where I began to see a design style emerging from myself. It’s been really exciting to see myself grow through the work I do.

I’ve had various other projects to work on during my time here at the CAFB, from designing posters, to infographics, and even invitations. I’ve enjoyed them all. My computer’s filled with finished designs as well as scraps of half-formed ideas. I have projects waiting to print out and assignments professionally printed, and it’s thrilling to say the least. It’s as thrilling as seeing my name in lights! Designing for the CAFB has been a valuable experience and not one I’ll ever forget.
