Central Texas Wildfire Relief Update

September 5th, 2011 § 3 comments

Wildfires in Central Texas have burned thousands of acres and continue to force evacuations. The Capital Area Food Bank is working closely with the American Red Cross of Central Texas to coordinate disaster relief efforts.  We will continue to keep you posted with updates.

How to Help:

The Food Bank is closed today for the Labor Day holiday, but you may donate non-perishable food items at our office at 8201 South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas, between William Cannon Drive and Slaughter Lane. Get directions. Please donate healthy, non-perishable food items such as water, peanut butter, canned meats, energy or granola bars, and canned fruits and vegetables. Pop-top lids and foil pouches are preferred to items requiring a can opener.  Learn more about the best way to donate food.

You may also donate online at the American Red Cross of Central Texas and the Austin Disaster Relief Network to provide general assistance to disaster victims.

Get Help:

If you know someone that needs food assistance, please visit our Get Help page, with information on how to get help and for applying for Food Stamps.

The Austin-American Statesman also has a list of resources for those affected by the fires.

Thank you for your continued support!
